We started The Continentals Retreat & Observatory in Cortez, Colorado, to provide our guests with the best vacation experience. We offer RV and tent sites, yurts, and tiny homes, all with private pet kennels available, as well as patios with fire pits spaced out for privacy. Barbeques are available upon request. The property has a fully equipped community building with a professional-grade kitchen, dining area, bathroom with multiple private stalls and showers, laundry facilities, a lounge with a game room, spiritual area, and spa services (aesthetics, jacuzzi, massage, and sauna). We have walking trails, two seasonal ponds, sitting areas with benches and swings, a labyrinth and playground, and an observatory complete with telescopes to view the amazing Colorado night skies. We understand what it takes to make your stay luxurious, pampered, and unforgettable.
A building is available for daily or weekly rent to host a full wedding event with an indoor or outdoor ceremony, family reunions, company gatherings, and social clubs.
We encourage our guests to make their stay a full experience. Bring your four-legged, furry family members! We have an on-site Pet AirBnB for daytime care while you explore the area or longer-term, 24-hour care.
Our building has indoor kennels that access connected, private outdoor spaces complete with dog houses or catios. A pet washing station is on-site for your use, or groomers are available by appointment. We can also accommodate guinea pigs, ferrets, fish, hamsters, rabbits, reptiles, and other small animals. Nanny cams with two-way audio are installed, so you can check in as often as you would like. FaceTime with your pet is available upon request.
If you decide to bring your horses to explore the area, we have stalls with private tack stations to accommodate your equine needs.

The McPhee Reservoir Recreation Area in the San Juan National Forest is the fifth-largest lake in Colorado with 50 miles of shoreline. It provides one of the best spots in the southwest area for warm-weather, big-lake fun. Boating, fishing, canoeing, rafting, paddle boarding, and jet-skiing are popular activities. Rentals are available on-site as well as a boat ramp and fish cleaning station.
The Canyons of the Ancients National Monument covers 176,000 acres of federal land that contains the highest archeological site density in the U.S. There are an estimated 30,000 sites, with many field houses, reservoirs, cliff dwellings, shrines, petroglyphs, and sweat lodges to explore. Some areas have more than 100 sites per square mile. There is a Visitor Center and Museum on site.
The Cortez Cultural Center is a beautiful building offering a wealth of information on Ancestral Puebloans. Many exhibits cover the local history, art, and ways of life for the ancient cultures that once thrived here.
The most popular attraction is the live Native American dances that are offered in the evening, Monday through Saturday.
Phils World Mountain Bike Trail is a must for any true mountain bike enthusiast. With over 60 miles of trails created by professional bikers, the ‘Rib Cage’ is the most prominent feature. This sprawling trail is fast and fun, with many washes and fast downhill opportunities. Phils World is a rotational track; all loops head in a clockwise direction, and every section is marked with signs.
